Making it easy for Kiwis to explore jobs, study, training or business support

MSD has been working with various government agencies to collate information on Employment, Education and Training opportunities. Building off our existing relationship, they approached Silverstripe to help them design and build a central place for information from the New Zealand Government for employers, job seekers and providers to make it easier to find education, training and employment opportunities.

A project of this size needed a full discovery phase, where we mapped MSD’s goals to their digital strategy and how to best deliver for their users, through to wireframing, user testing, and UI design. We aimed to build them a MVP that solved their initial problems that we could then continue to add onto and evolve over the following two years.

To deliver within the timeframe requested, all project streams were running in parallel. This meant Silverstripe were required to design the functionality of the website and build its components extremely quickly, without finalised branding or content. 

When the site was first launched we were still in the first year of the global pandemic, and people were worried about losing their jobs, or perhaps they had lost their job and were looking for a new opportunity. Anxiety was high and so we wanted to make navigating this site as easy and stress-free as possible.

To achieve this we created an innovative, bespoke pathfinder, which used taxonomy to search the entire site for what the user might need, and, after a series of step-by-step questions, presented them with a range of options.

For this website to be a success, there was a strong focus on the user and their experiences while interacting with the website. MSD were using Google analytics and search reports to track whether users were finding what they needed from the website, which helped direct continued development.
