We threw an impromtu party on Thursday after SilverStripe was featured on Ajaxian, which led us to being popular on Del.icio.us and then smattered all over the place on various blogs, including in Italy and Germany, giving our server a real thrashing!
Last year when we open sourced, Sam glued an apache log and an old Celeron with speakers together with a bit of PHP so that everyone in our office would hear a classic sound when a download of SilverStripe occured. By Thursday afternoon, when we found ourselves all over Del.icio.us (the homepage, under "popular", and rated first for tags like "cms", "web 2.0", "ajax" etc) the download alert was sounding every 15 seconds, so we knew it was time to get a few beers!
The traffic from Thursday 15th Feb made it look like we'd never had traffic before...
It had over 10 times the previous day in all terms of accounting (visitors, visits, page views, hits, bandwidth); getting 49,708 page views, and over 5GB of traffic. (AwStats excludes spidering from Google and Yahoo et al, and many other sites also run on this server, so the actual load on the server was much higher)
Thanks to Google Analytics we could see the congregations of traffic coming from where you'd expect...
And by internet source...
Right, so what's next?
Hi Will, further to your comment about a month ago, the kind people at opensourcecms have now added us to their list...

Nathan Torkington from O'Reilly blogged about this at http://radar.oreilly.com/archives/2007/02/being_delicious.html

Thanks :) Look forward to the day (and for the servers to live to tell the tale). As an update, we're now Google page 1 for "open source cms" and "cms demo" so we're still on a roll...

Just wait,
Once you hit the front page of digg, then your servers will crash :). Awesome software, keep up the good work.

We submitted to opensourcecms ages ago but they must be swamped with requests...
I'll update the bar graph of traffic at the end of the month; there's been some good traffic since, showing a second wave of visitors who either a) visit ajaxian et al less regularly, and b) visited us via a blog or forum post that was formed from a result of ajaxian. Interesting stuff ;)

Man I love that sound.. got to try and get that as my messaging ring tone. Now that will really piss everyone off in the office :P
Hey have you thought of putting SilverStripe on opensourcecms.com??
