Rainer Spittel
Senior Developer
Rainer joined SilverStripe in March 2009. After research and industry work in Germany and New Zealand, focused primarily on geospatial technologies, he welcomed the opportunity to contribute his knowledge to SilverStripe's projects.
Rainer wrote his first program on a Commodore PET 2001 at just 6 years old and he’s been passionate about computer technologies and software development ever since. Over time, the size of his projects has grown from a simple BASIC program with a few lines of code to highly available and scalable distributed software solutions.
An experienced software developer, primarily using PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and SQL, Rainer has an excellent knowledge of web standards such as the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards. He is a PostgreSQL database supporter and enjoys analysing code to optimise it.
Rainer has a Masters degree in Computer Science from Bremen University (Germany). When he’s not at work, you can find him travelling to New Zealand’s most beautiful places, capturing weird and beautiful moments on camera, or spending time with friends in one of Wellington's many cafes.
