Philipp Krenn

GSoC Hacker

Philipp is a 22 year old student from Vienna, Austria. He is studying Software and Information Engineering at the Technical University of Vienna. He hopes to finish his bachelor's degree by the beginning of next semester. When not studying, Philipp works for small companies doing system administration and web development. He is also interested in computer security and "low-level" programming (his bachelor's degree project will be writing a purpose-built VoIP proxy in C). In his free time, Philipp likes to play golf, ballroom dance, weight lift, and ski. He enjoys electronic music and going out with his girlfriend and mates.

The world has enough for man's need, but not for man's greed. Mahatma Ghandi

Philipp was inspired to apply for the Google Summer of Code because he wanted to contribute to the open source community. While looking through all available GSoC projects, Philipp found three he wanted to apply to. All were PHP based and focused on database integration. The more he dug into the projects, the more he favored SilverStripe. This was further enhanced by SilverStripe's positive reaction to his project idea. In the end, Philipp only applied to SilverStripe.

Philipp is looking forward to working on an international open source project. He will enhance SilverStripe by providing Postgres / Microsoft SQL support, mentored by Brian Calhoun.
