Meg Risen

GSoC Hacker

Meg is from Nashville, Tennessee. Her primary interests are information architecture and user interface - essentially making systems not only more functional but more user-friendly as well. Edward Tufte is her hero. Meg is currently studying Computer Science, but she is considering changing to a masters program in Information Science. In the non-tech realm, Meg likes rock n roll, art films, and crafting.  She is hooked on the television show "Lost". She lives with her husband and their two dogs in an old house where she spends a lot of time painting, blaring music, and dancing around like a crazy person.

Luck is nothing but hard work.

Meg applied for the Google Summer of Code because it seemed like fun and she wanted to get some experience working on a large application, as opposed to smaller classroom-type projects. She did extensive research on the different mentoring organisations, wading through the source code of many. Meg applied to SilverStripe because the application code seemed less intimidating than some of the others. ("Oh my gosh, I kind of understand what's going on here!") Plus, the people seem so nice. She's excited to get started.

Meg will be working on usability improvements to SilverStripe, mentored by Sean Harvey.
