Google Summer of Code Fruit #7: Google Maps

Posted by Sigurd on 14 July 2007

Ofir Picazo in Mexico has been working to incorporate Google Maps into SilverStripe, and a preview's  available. Ofir is now working towards improving the code and  features, so we'd love feedback for the stable release that will come out in a few months.

To demonstrate the Google Maps API in SilverStripe, Ofir has written code so that when the forum module is installed, it automatically adds a map to the forum registration form. This then presents a public map showing the global distribution of your forum members, as shown below.

  • I've had a look at the code.
    What i don't understand is,
How is this MemberLocation linked with the Member or ForumHolder?

  • Congrats Ofir!

I've tested it out with the forum module and it looks like Google Maps integration will be very nice to have!

Keep up the great work! :)
