Getting Deeper

Posted by Brian on 13 October 2007

Hi everyone! I just wanted to make a quick post to say a few things about my new role as CEO of SilverStripe.

First, I do want to thank all the people in and around SilverStripe for making the product and the company what it is today. The founders and the rest of the staff of SilverStripe have done an amazing job to get the product where it is today whilst creating awesome websites for our clients. In fact, it's really the other way around: the work we do for our clients takes first priority and the SilverStripe CMS allows us to create better sites for our clients. And of course a big thanks goes out to the developer community and our Google Summer of Code students who all contribute to the SilverStripe product and community in numerous ways.

I'm humbled and honoured to be in this role. The company truly is in a great position to do some (more) amazing things in the coming weeks, months, and years. By opening up the CMS to the world via the BSD license, we've seen a tremendous amount of support from the global community. That support allows us to improve the product much faster than we could on our own.

So what's on the SilverStripe horizon? A number of things, some you'll see only indirectly: more hosting capacity as we set up our Wellington-based server farm, new media streaming capabilities we can offer to our clients, heaps of improved internal processes around support and project management so we can serve our clients better, Google Summer of Code feature integration into the SilverStripe CMS, user interface improvements in the CMS, sponsorship of events around Wellington promoting best-practice software development, and of course, exciting new project work for some very forward-thinking clients.

What we're seeing now is an increased depth in the way we run our business, the kind of work we do for clients ("web-based applications" is often a lot closer to what we do than "websites"), and the evolution of the open source community in New Zealand and the world in general.

It's a great time to be in New Zealand, in Wellington, and at SilverStripe!
