Forum module v0.1 released

Posted by Sigurd on 8 July 2007

We've been busy working on the forum code recently, adding new features and making it work out of the box.

We're encouraging people to download it and give us feedback while we work towards a 1.0 release. The version number, 0.1, was used to explain that it contains only the core features of a forum (as opposed to being buggy).

So far, the forum module gives you an instantly working system based on the BlackCandy theme, with the same features as the forum running on this website.

Forum v0.1 features:

  • Follows our model of having a basic standard setup working with no configuration, using the BlackCandy theme. Just download the files; no HTML, CSS nor PHP to edit unless you wish to customise it.
  • Allows multiple forums, each with separate security permissions that can be adjusted inside the CMS
  • RSS feeds for posts to all forums, and posts to a specific forum
  • Each member has profiles that show their posts and details about them
  • Posts allow bbcode and file uploads
  • Can easily extend the registration form
  • Topic subscription (Subscribe to a topic and get an email when someone posts something new)

To install: download the forum module, uncompress to the base folder of your website, and visit <yoursite>/db/build . It requires SilverStripe v2.0.2+
