The basics
How does SilverStripe Dawn relate to the SilverStripe open source CMS, and to SilverStripe Ltd.?
When building and managing sites for our clients, we at SilverStripe Ltd. found that we needed a comprehensive monitoring tool that could give us both quick insight and in-depth data. We wanted to know if a site we're hosting is up and running, and we especially wanted to be notified if something occasionally went wrong. And then we thought that if we wanted a comprehensive monitoring tool for websites, others out there would probably want it as well. So the employees of SilverStripe Ltd. created SilverStripe Dawn.
We decided to release SilverStripe Dawn as Software as a Service (SaaS), because that model allows us to easily improve Dawn and provide additional features dynamically to meet the evolving needs of our clients.
We've released the "dawnlogger module" under the same BSD licence as SilverStripe as part of our continuing effort to support open source, and Dawn's SaaS status does not mean our commitment to open source development wanes.
Dawn will also allow us to do better work for our clients, because we can now monitor their sites better, adding to what we do.
Who is SilverStripe Dawn for?
It's for people who build or manage SilverStripe websites.
What are the system requirements?
Dawn requires SilverStripe 2.3+ running on a Linux or Macintosh host. When you sign up for the Dawn service, you'll download the Dawn Agent and dawnlogger module which you install locally. Dawn communicates with your local webserver through a port in your firewall which you'll need to open.
What are the browser requirements to use SilverStripe Dawn?
We recommend the latest version of Firefox.
Can I use SilverStripe Dawn to monitor non-SilverStripe websites?
No, or at least, not at this time. The initial release of Dawn is focused on monitoring SilverStripe sites. However, feel free to contact us if you would like Dawn to monitor your non-SilverStripe websites.
Do I have to host my website with SilverStripe in order to use Dawn?
Not at all! SilverStripe Dawn is Software as a Service and can monitor any SilverStripe website on any Linux or Macintosh host.
In what countries is SilverStripe Dawn available?
SilverStripe Dawn is available in all countries.
Plans and billing
Can I try SilverStripe Dawn before deciding whether or not to purchase it?
Yes. If you sign up for the Basic Plan, you'll have 30 days to try the fully-featured Dawn software out for free. If there's any reason you don’t want to continue to use Dawn, simply let us know before the end of the 30 days, and we’ll cancel your account and we won't charge your credit card.

What's included in my monthly fee?
All plans come with full monitoring of your SilverStripe-based web environment. This includes issue notifications by SMS or email, and monitoring of key metrics across the operating system, database, webserver, and SilverStripe layers.
Do I have to commit to a long contract?
No. We bill monthly and you can cancel at any time. You can sign up for a free 30-day trial period with the Basic plan, and we will only charge your credit card if you choose not to cancel during the trial period.
Can I change my plan after I've signed up?
Yes. Customers can perform upgrades themselves. You'll be charged the new monthly rate when you upgrade. However, we will prorate any money you've already paid under the old plan. To downgrade, you will need to contact us, as this usually involves removing sites, users, etc.
What if I host my own site?
You can certainly set up Dawn on your own site. Dawn is designed for your situation. Please make sure you meet the system requirements.
What if I need to monitor more than the maximum number of websites available in your biggest plan?
We can be flexible - just contact us and we can work out an appropriate custom plan for your needs.
How will I get billed?
Your credit card will be billed monthly.
Do you store my credit card information?
SilverStripe doesn't store your credit card information. We use a third-party payment provider, Chargify. Chargify stores credit card information in a secure, PCI-compliant environment.
How can I change my credit card details?
You can change your payment details from the Settings screen when you sign into your Dawn account.
Can I use SilverStripe Dawn to monitor my clients' SilverStripe websites?
Absolutely! Dawn was designed from the ground up to monitor SilverStripe websites. In fact, it was developed because of our own need to monitor our own clients' SilverStripe websites. You can use it to monitor any SilverStripe website, whether yours or your clients'.
How do I cancel?
You can cancel your account in the Settings area after logging into your Dawn account, or you can contact us directly.
Installing and using SilverStripe Dawn
How long does it take before I can use SilverStripe Dawn after signing up?
You can be up and running in as fast as 5-10 minutes. You'll need to download and install some software, (which is very easy to do) and you'll need to open a port in your firewall. That's it.
Is the communication between my server and the Dawn server secure?
Yes. All communication between your server and ours is over an SSL connection.
Can I export my data?
Site issues can be exported to CSV from within the Dawn Reports section. Other data cannot be exported at this time.
In what countries can I get SMS notifications?
Currently, Dawn can send notifications to New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom. If you would like to receive Dawn SMS notifications in a country other than those, please let us know.
