Creating links

Hi,
Almost each time I try to make a link - it fails.
1) Mark the text with the mouse
2) Chose link in the menu
3) Type in a url in the box at the rightAt step 3, the marking of the text i wanted to make to a link disappears. Trying to press 'insert' after this does nothing - because no text is marked.
If I try to re-mark the text, the input at the right disappear. If it was to a internal page, then the drop-down jumps back to the original setting.
Anybody else had this problem? Is some browsers better to use than others? I can't uploade pictures while using Firefox but that works fine with Internet Explorer.

are you using internet explorer 7?
