New Zealanders who missed out on the Google Summer of Code can, starting Friday, apply to be a part of the second New Zealand one, run during our summer! Last year SilverStripe choose two students, Andrew, and Jeremy, who continue to be paid to work on our open source project.

Come to the Victoria University IT Careers Expo and look for the Creative HQ Summer of Code stall. Friday noon to 2pm. Table 22, Level 2, Cotton Building, Kelburn Campus. Information will be posted soon to summerofcode.co.nz

At this stage the organisations are Wellington based, but we are happy to receive fantastic applications from Aucklanders. An enrolment form will be put on summerofcode.co.nz before the Friday expo; so fill it out in a day or two.

It looks like, last year at least, the SoC was pretty Wellington-centric. Any possibility of some Auckland-based companies this time round?

I'm a third year UoA student, and I'd love to participate, but I read that, for the 2006 SoC at least, it had "strong relationships with Victoria and Massey Universities". Does that preclude us Auckland students?

Hah, Choice! It's funny how the rest of the world forgets that there are other countries who don't follow the same seasons especially for international things...

Never the less, very cool stuff!
