Normann specialises in web-based software development using PHP, JavaScript and technologies such as AJAX and SOAP. Along with experience in languages like Java, C/C++, C#, Prolog, Haskell and MatLab, he's a big fan of OOP and Machine Learning.

While keeping his eye on the area of AI, Normann has deepened his interests in Genetic Programming and Neural Nets in recent years and has broadened his interests to multiple threads programming. He is the co-author of two papers, "Looseness Controlled Crossover in GP for Object Classification" (Proceedings of IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation, a part of IEEE Congress on Computational Intelligence. Vancouver BC, Canada) and, "GP for Object Classification: Brood Size in Brood Recombination Crossover" (Proceedings of the 19th Australian Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence, Springer. 2006)

Normann's move into IT was a dramatic shift in his career. He originally got his BSc in Mechanical Engineering and worked as machinery engineer in the steel industry for 10 years. He then got his second degree, a BScHon (First Class) in Computer Science, from Victoria University and started out as an IT professional. He's also got a post-graduate diploma in Manufacturing Management from Warwick University (UK).

In his spare time, Normann is keen on swimming, Taekwondo and networking games.
